Default Can't find a cable locally...can anyone help me make one?

Hi,

I need a cable with 2 1/4" mono male to 1 1/8" stereo male to connect
my L&R Control Room Out plugs on my mixer to my computer sound system
speakers.

Can someone sort out a part list and give some brief instructions? I am
good with a soldering iron but have never made audio cables before.

Thanks,
Craig

You'll find it easy to source a 1/8" stereo plug 2 x phono cable.
Complete the job with 2 X phono 1/4" jack adaptors.

My experience is that wiring 1/8" mini plugs is a PITA and it's easier to
buy pre-made cables and replace the non-mini ends if necessary.

I've done it both ways, but vigorously agree with the idea of starting with
an appropriate ready-made cable with a factory-installed 1/8" (3 mm) mini
stereo plug.

Well, you can go to Radio Shack and buy a cable with a 3.5mm
stereo mini-phone connector at one end, and two RCA plugs at
the other end...
Mini-stereo-to-dual-RCA cable: # 15-2451 $7.50 ("Monster" brand)
Mini-stereo-to-dual-RCA cable: # 15-2451 $8 ("Radio Shack" brand)

and you can buy a pair of RCA to 1/4" phone adapters there, also...
Mono phono-to-1/4" phone adapter # 274-320 $5 ("Radio Shack" brand)
Gold phono-to-1/4" phone adapter # 274-320 $4 ("Radio Shack" brand)

Or you can buy a cable off-the-shelf with mini-phone to dual 1/4"...
Mini-stereo-to-dual-1/4" phone # 15-2475 $30 ("Monster" brand)

Knowing how to solder is a good thing, but this is not necessarily
a reason to learn.

Only if they are broken.

No. As long as it's a clean contact.

Buy a cable that goes from one 1/8" stereo male to two RCA male. Chop off
the RCA plugs and attach 1/4" stereo plugs.

If you want to avoid all make-up, you can buy the same cable--1/8" stereo
male to RCA male--and add a pair of RCA female to 1/4" male adapters to the
end. The whole thing should cost less than $5.
