I thought I'd let those of you who responded to my enquiry about these
microphones know that just before christmas I took them along to a small local recording studio. The manager kindly set up A B comparisons recording acoustic guitar against a pair of Neumann KM184s and against an AKG C12VR. We both thought that the clean results favoured the Hammond microphones which produced a result similar to the Neumanns but with a warmer quality and a very full rich bass. The C12VR in both omni and cardioid modes produced results with very strong treble content. (He did say the this was not a microphone he would choose for recording acoustic guitar). During the exercise I learnt that my home recording results with the Hammond microphones were probably impaired by the absence of a microphone preamplifier so I am now going to rectify that. Thank you to everyone who responded with suggestions and a happy New Year to you all! Nick Roche http://www.soundclick.com/bands/7/nickrochemusic.htm http://freespace.virgin.net/n.roche/ |
