Thank you Kalman,
I would imagine that some of the things that are most difficult to attain, and common amongst most run of the mill home audio systems, and listening enviorments, can be trying to attain proper imaging-soundstage, and a clear coherent sound field. I know my system lacks this attribute somewhat, as I'm limited by what I can do within my own home. Walls that reflect too much can smear, and "confuse-pollute"" the sound of a system. To be totally honest, I've only heard audio done "perfectly right" twice in my entire life. In one instance, it was IMO a properly sized room, (Was about 25'x50') had the correct room treatments, had perfect speaker placement, and had the sofa sitting in the perfect "sweet spot". The components were all Audio Research, and the speakers were $5,300 a pair Martin Logans. Not that this has been the most expensive system I've ever heard mind you, but I reckon time, and strict attention was paid to dialing in-fine tuning everything. I truly understood at that moment just how important speaker placement, listener position, and room treatments-good acoustics were, rather than add-ons like Tone Controls, EQ's, etc. With eyes closed, the soundstage was huge, the walls magically vanished-disappeared, and one could visualize the Orchestra in front of you, will no readily audible sense of a back wall, or side walls causing reflections. The Goose Bumps were there! Mark |
