... Hi I have been following this group for about a year now. I have some questions regarding getting a new CD player. In a post a long time ago, I indicated that my NAD 512 player is giving up the ghost, with no display and now not wanting to read the occasional CD. I would like to replace it and have the following question: what are the features that a new CD player should have? I ask this, as I have read all the budget vs. high end posts and I think it would be easier to make a decision based on the above question. For the record, I use it for sound only and I do not have and DVD-A or SACD. Things I would wonder about is whether optical out, HDCD capability, etc is needed. Also I read a lot about the jitter and how some units have a less than others, cost not being the factor but the brand of the transport/clock/innards. I would appreciate input. I would urge you to get a universal player assuming one is available in the price range you are considering, but did not reveal. Otherwise just get a DVD player,, since it will play most discs and have the advantage of playing movies as well. The SACD format is not likely to last very long since there is no obvious difference in sound quality except for the fact that the discs are mixed differently for surround sound. |
