Default Transmitting Cable...

A little off topic, but could not think of a better
place to get useful responses.

I have analog cable at home, and currently have the
cable outlet in one corner of the room. I want to move
the TV to the other corner, but I want to avoid running
cable to the other end of the room.

Is there any way to transmit the cable signal over the
air? I dont want to just transmit the A/V signal, I
want to be able to use the tuner on the TV to pick
channels etc.

TIA,
Irax.

There is no nice way to do this. Using your TV tuner is not practical.

There are devices that can wirelessly transmit a SINGLE channel across
a room. Historically these devices have not worked well, but a new crew
is appearing that can do a good job, for a price.

If you have a cable box, plug it into the wireless device and use your
cable remote to change channels. If you don't have a cable box, you'll
need a remote control TV tuner (an old, broken VCR will work fine).
This tuner will be connected to the wireless device. The TV tuner or
cable box will convert your desired channel to the channel that the
wireless device will relay to the TV.

Note that these wireless devices have two parts -- a transmitter which
is connected to the TV tuner and a receiver connected to your TV set.

That's not the way it works. Use a cable, what's the frickin' problem
with running maybe 30 feet of cable round the wall?

It's true that upgrading one of those can be *very* expensive! :-)

I've certainly not caught on to the kind of lifestyle where you flood
your hi-fi system with all kinds of EMI - and open your home PC
network to any passing hacker with a laptop...................
