Hello everyone,
I am an experimental instrument builder and I'm trying to build something that involves four strings on seperate magnetic coil pickups each running to their own output. The basic principle here is to have signal from the pickup sent to a mixer then an amp and then to a speaker mounted inside the instrument, which allows the individual strings to feedback, while the mixer controls the levels being sent back to the speaker. The problem is that my mixer only has one Hi-Z input. I want to have two outs for each channel, one at the Hi-Z level straight off the pickup, and a second at line level so that I can input it into my mixer. I know there is a way to do this, but i'm a rookie when it comes to electronics. I don't need any kind of level control, just something that steps the guitar pickup up to line level. Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm stumped on this one. Thanks AFV |

Guitar pickups put out a pretty strong high Z signal. If you want to get
down to one pickup per string, you can use the coils from the insides of relays. If you get the right size relay switch, there will be a nice single coil of wire, wound around a steel slug. If you glue a strong magnet on the back of the slug you'll have a single string pickup! If you complete the magnetic circuit, by connecting a piece of steel from the back of the magnet up to a finished edge in the same plane as the core of the coil, you'll have a much stronger pickup. The voltage is there at 100K or more, you need to get some current behind it. Use a single package op-amp like a TLO81 to give it some current before you put it into a tape deck for direct recording.
