using ProTools 5.1 on a Mac G3 with system 8.6, i want my Sound In set
to RCA in, but it keeps switching back to External Mic.

YEP - it's ProTools 5.1

Pro tools free is version 5.0.1 i believe. 5.1 is an official version
and needs pro tools hardware. I'm surprised you're even able to boot it
up.

my mistake. ProTools 5.01 it IS.

using it on a Mac G3 minitower.
