Hello! I just found your group and decided to join and so now I feel
it's only polite to tell you all a little about myself. My name is Tom and I live in the midlands (UK). I live with my parents and have recently turned their dining room into my studio. They don't mind really. The main reason I actually set it up was so my band could have a place to rehearse when our old studio closed down last month but now that I've put a computer in and brought a few cables, I've started recording aswell. I'm running Cubase SX on WinME. I've got an Alesis Multimix8 desk and Warrior Pro 600w amp plus many little odds and ends. Current projects include my own album (which will be folkyish possibly), my friends death metal band "Convict Pensioner" who have just recorded their EP with me and also the guitarist from my band asked me if he could come and record here sometime soon. Anyway I feel that is all I want to say for now. If you want to talk to me or ask me anything then go for it! I look forward to many long late-night discussions about valve amps lol. Tom |

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the group! I'm not in charge or anyone in particular for that matter but I've been around RAP ( Rec.Audio.Pro ) for 5 or 6 years. To start out you should read through the FAQ at : http://www.recaudiopro.net/ Also, if you can buy the 5th RAP CD compilation. It's five discs worth of recording education with interesting and impressive engineering with stuff from technical test tones to funny novelty songs to pieces of music that will blow you away. And if you have a turntable the is a special vinyl RAP compilation available through Scott Dorsey ( his email address is near the top of the FAQ ) Other than that have a good time here. RAP has often been referred to as sort of a huge virtual bar room where you will meet people at all levels of audio recording, you'll learn tons of new stuff, make some nice acquaintances and even friends, see a lot of BS ( some in fun by regulars, some malicious by unwanted outsiders ) and people calling other people on their BS ( some good natured, some annoyed and some down right ****ed off ). There are all too often discussions that get out of control and off topic, normally into areas of religion and politics, but, that happens everywhere in the world! Some times well meaning people will try to answer someone else's question but if the information supplied isn't correct, someone will almost always jump in with a correction, sometimes polite and helpful, sometimes like angry bezerkers swinging wildly! ;-) And don't assume that the polite ones are right and the ones with bad attitudes are wrong. We are lucky to still have here many well seasoned industry pros with great knowledge but after seeing misinformation passed around the internet some of them may get a little annoyed. Just take things with a grain of salt, stick up for yourself, but keep in mind that there are a lot of ways to do the same thing So, welcome aboard! -- John L Rice wrote in message oups.com... Hello! ![]() wrote in message ... Welcome.... can't say anything more accurate in reflecting the nature of the group than what John has said in his acknowledgement. I look forward to many long late-night discussions about valve amps lol. Some people are here daily, others only a few times per week... so don't expect the conversation to end in a single night. ;-) -- David Morgan (MAMS) http://www.m-a-m-s DOT com Morgan Audio Media Service Dallas, Texas (214) 662-9901 _______________________________________ http://www.artisan-recordingstudio.com |

Oh, just **** off, you stick-swinging, tub-thumping, pontificating DRUMMER you! g Now, someone step in and correct me by saying that what I *really* meant to say was "John's right" and mention that he's actually a really good guy too! BTW, what's the best computer under $200 for posting to Usenet? It will be used primarily for flaming. Does that mean I need one with a Firewall? Tom, hang around and read for a while and get a feel for who's who. We've occasionally lost valued contributors when they decided that their time was too valuable to waste on reading flames from newbies. -- "It CAN'T be too loud... some of the red lights aren't even on yet!" - Lorin David Schultz in the control room making even bad news sound good (Remove spamblock to reply) |
