Hi,
I've been recording my self play my classical guitar lately. Some of it has
been fun, a lot of it has been a living hell.
I'm using ProTools, still, and would like to ask if there are any plugins
that will allow me to add strings, woodwinds etc to my recording as an
accompaniment to my guitar playing.
I don't have time to become an expert in learning yet another plug in so I
would appreciate something with not too steep learning curve and a decent
sound.
Doesn't have to be a PT plugin as long as I can open up the files in this
software after bouncing to disk from PT (.wav format).

try SampleTank Free (http://www.sampletank.com) if you're looking for
something free and easy to use. the sounds are pretty good. hopefully
you have a Midi keyboard. otherwise you'll have to pencil the notes
in... talk about a pain.

I highly recommend http://www.synful.com/. The demo is fully functional for
14-days IIRC. Be sure and read the manual to get the most out of it (it's
actually quite simple to use). Listen to the user demos too as they're
better than the official ones. This is some pretty neat technology.

I'd suggest that even if you go the pure MIDI synth route you probably
want to at least look at samplers rather than the typical GM
generator... and pay a lot of attention to dynamics. (Synthesizing flute
is actually not all that hard; making it sound _human_ takes a heck of
a lot more effort.)

Having said that: I'm a bit confused by the fact that the question was
phrased in termsl of "plug-ins". Are you looking for something that will
add the accompaniment automatically, or allow you to control these
instruments from guitar, or did you mean a plug-in synthesizer?

What about, brass, woodwinds, percussion, not to mention more than two
violins, one viola and one cello?
Guess I should have said "Need orchestration" in my mix in the subject.

I don't have a synthesizer and was initially thinking of a PT plug-in. But
realized later that of course it doesn't have to be a plug-in, it can be a
stand alone software. That should be just fine.
I will check the suggestions I've gotten so far.
They seem reasonable. Long as I can download a trial software so I can check
it out for a while before I commit to purchasing.

Not really misleading, and I did tease a wee bit. When I cook then I may
use a bit of prefab as ingredient, but not just prefab, real ingredients
too. Making music and certainly mixing it is not imo all that different
from cookery ... O;-)
