Hi,
since we cannot imagine mixing without Yamaha NS-10's, we've have considered buying a bunch of spare tweeters / woofers BUT ... here it comes ... does anybody know if these speakers have an "expiry date"? I mean: if these spare stay boxed for 5 years, will their quality deteriorate? Thanks for your feedback |

I mean: if these spare stay boxed for 5 years, will their quality deteriorate? Nobody really knows. What deteriorates on speaker components is stuff that is flexible. Rubber parts like spiders, and urethane foam on the surrounds. Both of these can be replaced in a pinch, but part of the problem is knowing that the speaker sounds different so that the stuff needs to be replaced. Modern urethane foam mixes aren't supposed to fall apart like the foams of the seventies and eighties did. But the stuff on the current NS-10 parts? I dunno. I don't think it would do any harm to stock up on parts. If worse comes to worst you may need to replace the surrounds when you pull them out of storage. But then, I am the kind of guy who keeps a spare engine and three crates of axles for my car in the backyard. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

Rubber parts like spiders, and urethane foam on the surrounds. The surrounds on my NS10's are probably around 17 years old now and still appear fine so that's one data point. I've also never heard of anyone having to replace NS10 drive units because the surrounds have gone. Cheers. James. |

They used to make a pretty slick subwoofer for the NS-10, as well as some of the best sounding horn monitors (ie. least horn-sounding horn monitors) I ever heard. I haven't heard anything about them in a decade. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
