I recently acquired a 16 channel Hill multimix board. As of now, phantom
power has to be supplied via 5 9V batteries in series... ick.

So would any old 48V DC power supply suit my needs for dedicated phantom
power? Does anyone out there use this mixer and have a phantom power
supply connected? If so, what do you use?

Phantom is in the power supply. ON-OFF switch and indicator
on the front.

Do you have the Hill power supply? Is it defective? If
you're not using the Hill PS, what are you using to power
the board?

I have three of these mixers, and use the phantom that
squirts out of the power supply connector.

hmm... well i do have the power supply for the mixer. it's 1 rack space
big and connects to the mixer with a DIN 5 (same as Midi) connector. On
the back of the supply is a 1/4" jack and the daisy chain of batteries
plugs into that. It's the "Hill Multimix/Stagemix" if that makes any
difference...

Double hmmm...

I've got a Stagemix as well (and a SoundMix), and the power
supplies are the same - just as you describe - 1RU with a
DIN 5 pin.

So, you don't have a phantom power switch on the front of
the PS with a indicator light?

Kind of hard to troubleshoot over the newsgroup, but if your
technical chops are up to it, you might pull the power
supply apart and see what's going on with the 1/4" jack. See
where it's connected, and what might have been disconnected
(if anything). It's possible that the 48V part of the PS
failed, and you've got a work-around fix. There were a
couple of different power supplies from Hill. Maybe you have
one of the variations.

Maybe a little more investigation...
