Default Looking before leaping: What's involved in starting a radio talk show.

I'm taking the time to find out what it takes to produce a radio talk
show. With gambling and entertainment being the focus, what are the
components invovled in producing a radio show from scratch. I don't
know sqwat about the radio business or the technical aspects, although
I am very successful in other industries. Any help and discussion
would be be golden. Thanks, Don

Technically it's a no-brainer. Very easy to rig a talk studio, only thing
that's tricky but still off the shelf is the phone system.

You want to PRODUCE a talk show all you need is the mics/mixer and a
recorder. Now you've got a bunch of recorded shows to air...

Getting it on the AIR and day-to-day operations is another thing entirely.
It takes a staff of 3-10 a FULL day to prep, run, debrief and pre-prep the
next day's show. It's a pretty full-time job just for the producer and
assistant to be lining up guests (and last minute double-backup guests for
no-shows) and to keep files and be nursing the whole thing along whiole
on-air.
You should maybe find the largest nearby radio or television station, drop
in and ask who produces shows and see who'll give you 1/2 hour or take em to
lunch for their trouble. Likewise talk to the chief engineer at the facility
about this. At ALL times --completely-- admit (as you have here) your
complete ignorance of the genre and ask in the same breath where THEY would
recommend you study up on all of this (and yes, there's QUITE a bit).
You'll get bucketloads of information, a mojority of which will be in what
seems a forgein language. Either take copious notes or (WITH PERMISSION!)
take a dictation recorder. You can figure it out later.
