news:_gfae.59$oD6.26@trndny07... OK,this is the situation: 1) I could use more outputs on my desktop, and have also decided that I would like to have a breakout box (currently have an AP 2496). 2) I definitely need better audio latency on my laptop than my M-Audio Ozone (USB 1.1) is providing. 3) I was just reading an earlier thread about using firewire and PCI audio together(, which said it could be done if they were synced by S/PDIF. My laptop already has firewire, my desktop would need a firewire card. The solution for the laptop would therefore be obvious; the Firewire Audiophile should do. For the desktop, however, things are less clear. To date I have only found one way of keeping one card on its very own IRQ; this has been the AP2496. I will have 2 slots free when I dump my SB Live, one of which, however, is the one next to the AGP card, which also shares IRQ with the slot the SB is in now. So I have two options: put another Delta card (probably a 66) in the SB's current slot, and sync with the AP2496. The problem with this is that if I choose to add firewire in the future it will have to go in the first slot, and it would share with one of the Deltas. The second option is to replace the 2496 with the Delta 66, and put a firewire card in the SB's slot so that if I do need the extra ins/outs, I can hook up the FW AP and sync it (if I understood that previous thread correctly). I'm leaning towards the second option, since the Delta card will continue to be on its own IRQ, and I would only have to worry about sync'ing if I needed more than 4 ins/outs (probably not often), and I'd have the option of using firewire for other things too. Whaddaya think? Will it work? I suggest you ask this on cakewalk.audio NG. There's some people going through this right now. |
