I went to www.swissonic.com and I was redirected to German music store
Thomann. Is Swissonic still in business? Is its gear (like the AD8
pre/converter) still being made?

Curious. They were distributed in the US by Plus24 Marketing. I was
going to direct you to their web site, but when I went there to check
the spelling, I see that they no longer carry Swissonic.

No. Thomann bought the brand name. The USB audio device they market is
an Egosys thing in disguise...

really very acceptable prices (about a year ago).

I believe most of that wasn't original stock, but built in lower quality
somewhere in East Europe after Swissonic had already gone down....
