I want to be able to record my guitar into my PC. I have the following
equipment:

Guitar/amp
PC with RME HDSP9632 soundcard (standard dongle, not XLR)
AKG C3000B cond mic
Recording software(soundforge etc)

I've recording my POD on my PC before, plugging straight into the line input
on the PC but I've not recorded my guitar with a mic. What other hardware do
I need if any to do it? I'm guessing I can't just plug the mic straight into
the soundcard if I had the XLR dongle, and the mic needs phantom power.
Therefore do I need an external mixer?

A mixer would be good. Or maybe you'd like to swap your soundcard
for one with an integrated mic preamp. A mixer would be more
flexible, particularly if you decided to progress to multitrack
recording in the future. What's the "etc." after Soundforge?

Come to that, what's a "standard dongle?" :-)
