Default Seeking an Alesis 3630 in the Neighborhood

No, I haven't lost my mind, at least I don't think so. I performed the
Black Lion modification on one of these for someone and while the
lights and knobs looked like they were working, it didn't sound like
it was compressing. I plotted it out and sure enough, it isn't, not on
either channel. Darn good way of making it not sound bad. g

So either I made the same mistake twice, or . . . well, I dunno. If
someone in the DC area has one (stock) that I can borrow for a couple
of days, I'd like to compare some test points with this one and see
what makes it work. If I get this thing working, in payment for the
loan you get to hear what one sounds like with a modification that
some people seem to think sounds good.

I'd be curious to read a review of the mod, assuming you get the bugs worked
out. I was given a 3630 and have actually found a good use for it -
watching TV very quietly, hearing the dialog, and explosions don't wake the
roommates. If it could compete with even a 166XL after a $50 mod I'd be
interested. The 3630 looks like crap in my AV system, been meaning to swap
it for a nanocomp. Wonder if the 3630 mods apply to it too...?

Don't bother. Tom Lee on Granville carries RNCs now.

The NANO is a weird little bird. If nothing else I bet the input circuits
are way diff as the Nano will overload it's pre-gain-control front end on
nominal mid-line-level signals.
