Default Thanks for your help

Wow, you guys are great. This is concerning my trying to eliminate the
noise level enough to make a descent CD of my book. I got more than what I
wanted in just a few hours. Cool!

It seems to me that the common suggestion is to get a pre amp for my mic.
That makes complete sense. I'll do some homework and pic one up. I will
also reread the other postings and see what else I can get from them.

I realize I'm not going to be James Earl Jones in a 100k sound studio. I'll
be professional with the writing, and be satisfied with good for the
recording. I know, what does good mean, but you guys understand, I'm sure.

Again, thanks for your help. This group is very cool. I'll stick around a
while and read, listen and learn.

NO! Don't go out and buy a mic preamp until you complete the
prerequisite steps of analyzing why your current setup is not working!

Do you have the mic plugged into a genuine mic input on your SB?
Are all the software/driver settings correct?

If you discover that you don't have a mic input, or that the mic preamp
in the SB is really lousy (both of which are very live possibilities),
THEN come back here and tell us your budget and ask for recommendations
for a preamp.

If you are really concerned about saving your $$$, don't just run out
and buy more hardware until you have the whole picture.
