Ah... but the subject matter was drum overheads. ;-) I think I hear what you describe, but I'd be inclined to attribute that to proximity effect as well, at least on the instruments you refer to. In my experience I get a fuller bottom end out of a grand piano with a pair of 87's or 414's than a pair of Km 100's or AKG 451's. Miking from what position? If you're going inside the piano, I'd agree with the experience - hence I tend to stay away from them due to their susceptibility to harvest unwanted mechanical noises. DM |
