Bingo. Bad bearings. Take it apart.

The Motor is labeled Studer. I haven't taken it apart, so it might say
Papst inside. Doesn't look like Papst-style motor though. It is quite low
profile. It seems to have a phosphor-bronze top-bearing.

I'll have to see if the client wants further expense before proceeding.
Anyone got a service manual?


I think the number of these machines sold in the US can be counted on
one hand. There were a bunch sold in Europe, but they are very rare here
because they were competing with Tascam gear that was far cheaper.
