I'm a Sonar/MOTU user that is considering dipping my toes into the Pro
Tools world. As part of the migration, I'm planning to get the Digi 002 Rack Factory Bundle. I don't expect to use the Pro Tools LE for all of my projects for a variety of reasons, but given the potentially superior nature of the Digi 002 clock, I'd like to try using it as the master clock for the MOTU hardware. There is no Word Clock I/O on the Digi 002 products. It seems that simply leaving the Rack powered on would provide the signal that I need. I would use the ADAT-out from the Digi 002 Rack to one of the ADAT-in ports on the MOTU 2408 and set the MOTU Console to expect an external ADAT clock source. Are there issues or gotcha's in this clocking plan that I should consider before spending the cash? Thanks in advance! |

On the Digi-002 toolbar submenu there is a clock setting for internal
or ADAT. You have to make a point of selecting the ADAT clock if you are recording ADAT type of signal outputs via optical or else you get some clicking artifacts. Works great. Dean |

Is one prosumer device really going to have that much better of a clock
than the other? Buy an external dedicated converter/master clock if you are concerned about this kind of thing, but otherwise I feel like there won't be much difference. A lot of gear is often happier running on its internal clock anyway than slaving to another clock. In other words, how well does the MOTU slave to external clock versus with the potentially non-existent benefit of the Digi002's potentially no-better clock?
