So, as far as I can tell, no one has Kurzweil Rumour's in stock. Many sites
say they will not have it in stock until the end of February. As far as I can tell, they have been out of stock for a while also. So, does anyone know what the problem is? Did Kurzweil seriously underestimate the popularity of the Rumour, so they ran out of stock? It doesn't seem that it should take this long to ramp up production on new units though. With this much delay, I start wondering if there is a known defect that is being corrected, or a revised version is being developed. John Marvin |

Come to think of it, Kuraweil wasn't even at the NAMM show this year, not even as a keyboard manufacturer. Wonder if they've been bought by somebody. Ahh, thanks, that is the clue I needed. I hadn't considered the possibility of financial difficulties. Sure enough, typing Kurzweil and bankrupt into google led me to some information. Basically here is what the current status seems to be. Kurzweil is owned by Young Chang (a Korean piano mfg.). Samick (another Korean piano mfg.) tried to buy Young Chang. However the Korean FTC said no. Soon after, Young Chang filed for bankruptcy. Meanwhile, it looks like Kurzweil has lost a good part of their engineering team, which is not good. It turns out that they were at NAMM, however, due to not having any new products to announce, they were fairly quiet. It sounds like the Kurzweil employees are optimistic about their future, but things are kind of in limbo right now. There are continued rumors of a pending announcement "any day now". I guess we'll just have to wait and see. John Marvin P.S. For those interested, this discussion board seemed to have the most information: http://community.sonikmatter.com/for...hp/t21555.html |

Might be a change for the better, though. jb |

I was speaking to a rep at Swee****er today who said that Kurzweil had
in fact been sold to Samick. He said that availability has been slow for all of their stuff; the orders do get shipped but have been taking much longer than normal to fill. He did say, though, that product was still available. I'll let you know if/when I receive the KDFX upgrade I ordered today. Ragnar |
