Default octava MK319

Guitar Center has these cheap. Will they do a good job on a drum recording.

I tried an Oktava 319 a few years ago, and thought it was just
terrible. I returned it the following morning as soon as the store
opened. Maybe mine was a bad example.

Personally, I suggest saving up for a better condensor mic, or buying a
comparably priced dynamic. You didn't state your intended use of the
319 on a drum session, so it's hard to offer specific advice.

For $99.00 you can get an MXL V67g, which I think is a far superior and
surprisingly versatile mic for the money. Makes a good room mic on a
drum kit too.

I know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but I bought an
MK-219 at Guitar Center like the week before they got rid of them and
offered the 319 for the same price. The 219 looks kind of dumb, but
really who cares. I have tried the mic a number of times on my tenor
sax (I play jazz) and it sounded great down in the low range but the
upper-mid range of the horn sounded terrible. However, I recorded an
upright bass with it and it sounded really good. The bass player (who
also dabbles in recording) heard the playback in the control room and
said "Hey! That sounds like my bass." The ultimate compliment. Oh
yeah, so this really doesn't answer your question at all, but maybe
it'll help you out somehow.

For $99, try the new Audio Technica AT2020. If you haven't heard it, wait
until you do.

Are you saying it's better than you expected, better than it ought to be
for the money, pretty good anyway or what? (Yeah, I know, wait for the
review... G)
