I just got this head-ache to add to my list:
Stop error: 0X0000009F DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

(Windows 2000 Pro).

It has something to do with drivers from software messing up the
shut-down process. So now my computer hangs when it shuts down and I
get the blue screen.


I wouldn't mind completely re-installing Windows 2000. Which brings up
2 questions:

1)Would that fix the problem?
2)A number of the music software things I buy have a registration
process that goes through the net and then creates an authorization for
you. Would re-installing Windows cause my computer to "forget" my
software registration numbers?

I don't know if reinstalling windows would fix the problem, but if it's
a software problem, it will.

Most apps that you authorize will need to be authorized once again if
you reinstall Windows. It depends on the app, though. Check with the
vendor. Usually, wiping a machine kills the authorizations.

Also, if you're going to reinstall Windows, why not upgrade to XP?
