Default Correct drop out problem on Cubase VST using ProteusX synth

I'm trying to sequence using ProteusX (with E-MU 0404 card), to get rid
of latency I droped the ASIO latency down to around 10 to, which
removed the latency problem, but an ugly side effect of having the
latency so low is that Cubase VST has drop out problems when recording.

Exactly why hardware synths are still the way to go for a few more
years (for me anyway).

What's funny to me is that E-MU tech support claims the hardware is
more than capable of delivering on zero-latency MIDI input while
sequencing (multitasking one PC) providing the system meets or exceeds
minimum requirements.

I find it hard to believe that it drops out on a single track. I
e-mailed their support with my complaints the response back was "we
don't need you to tell us about the quality of our products, our
50,000+ user base has you out voted... there must be something wrong
with your configuration outside our software and hardware.... the
product works perfectly as advertised". I can provide the e-mall for
anyone who doesn't believe, they were that direct with me.

In hopes of finding a better product I contacted M-Audio's support
(looking into the Audiophile 2496, which comes with a lite version of
Reason) the response I recieved back was "the 0404 is an excellent
product, if you want a M-Audio counterpart forget the 2496 look to our
Delta (much more expensive) line of products".

Thanks Randall,

I'm using as a VST Instrument. I'm not stacking anything at this point.
I'm just trying to lay down a single track (drum track), which contains
a few bars of 16th notes at a tempo of around 140, I don't understand
why my machine wouldn't be able to handle this.

I exceed the minimum requirements on the synth software (my system is a
PIV 2.4 Ghz and 768-MB of RAM) and remember I'm only recording/playing
a single track, so I'm a bit confused.

Sounds like you got enough horsepower.Do you have a lot of processes
running in the background?Check the task manager, and shut of anything
except the necessary windows processes, including anti virus,
firewalls, etc.You should probably check any emu forums that exist, as
someone there has probably experienced the problem you are having.
I have an old pentium 3- 1 gig as a second pc, and it will run about 8
vsti tracks while recording another before it bogs down.If I have anti
virus on , though, I may not get 2 to run.Other than that, you may
want to check out this site for some tips when using windows xp.
