Default Sound Forge Issue with XP

I am using Sound Forge 7.0b.

Whenever I use the spacebar to play back regions quickly SoundForge 7.0 b
is crashing and causing my Laptop to immediately shutdown.
This has also happened when using midi triggers for markers. I have
triggering set to ch. 16 note on - play, note off - stop.

Using Windows XP Pro w Service Pack 2
HP zd7000 Pentium 4 at 3 GHz w 768 Mb RAM
Plenty of Hard Drive Space
M-Audio FireWire 410 Interface

As there are zillions of XP SP2 installs of SF7 that work just fine (I have
3), I would guess that your install is broken. Try uninstall/reinstall .
If this doesn't fix, suspect something broken in Winders - try Nortin
WinDoctor or similar. Or most likely given the total crash it could be your
soundcard device driver.

Have you tried Sony tech support ?

Untrapped division by zero. It is likely to be in the OS memory
compartment, otherwise it would only lead to a shut down of the program
- feed a non-recent version of word incorrect page size parameters for a
demonstration of the effect of forgetting to check for the validity of
input-data. Never seems to be an issue with Word Perfect .... O;-) ...
anyway, drivers run in the OS memory compartment, and that suggests that
something a driver expects is not there, ie. that it is a
driver-hardware combination issue. But I don't see you mentioning the
blue screen of death that such issues normally cause .... ah well,
nothing is perfect.

This has also happened when using midi triggers for markers.

Presumeably the laptop also has an onboard audio interface. I would
start with investigating whether it is possible to disable it - at least
for the duration of the troubleshooting - to reduce the number of
variables.

Of the relevant audio drivers too .... I know nothing about Sound Forge,
but at a glance it almost *has* to be a driver issue, if it was a
software issue I would expec only the shutdown of the software, at least
with this OS.

Exactly.

Or HP or Midiman ... nah, reinstall software, make repair install of OS
to ensure proper hardware ID and driver install is also what all of
those can suggest, unless of course an exactly defined error that can
cause the issue is known to them. You should also look for updated
driver versions ....

geoff ( if you like)

Kind regards
