Default Needing help in starting out...

hi,

i'm just wanting to get into sound recording for film, and i'm
wondering if anyone can give me a bit of advice for the best way to
get started: i'd like to buy some sort of recorder that i can download
the sounds from onto a mac, so i can practice editing them. i was
thinking maybe a minidisc, but there doesn't seem to be any way to
download the sound from them onto a mac, and they also record slightly
compressed apparently. anyway, if anyone can give me any advice on the
kind of equipment i should be looking at, then please let me know.

thanks heaps

Instead of looking at equipment, look for an internship or a school. It's
not likely, unless you know a bunch of independant film producers, that
you'll learn enough on the equipment you could purchase inside of your
budget (no matter how big your budget is, it gives you absolutely no
experience for film editing and mixing) to get a "job" doing film editing
and mixing.

You may be able to learn how to do some sampling and sound design work IF
you can find indie film guys to work with. You'll get sandwiches out of it
maybe, but you could get some minimal experience. The equipment necessary
for film sound recording can fall to ADR or foley or field recording, each
which has it's own requirements.

In other words, to learn to to work in the industry, you're probably better
of to work in the industry instead of your bedroom.
