I am looking for some recommendations for audio batch converters. I am
primarily translating large batches of audio file into low bitrate formats. Does anyone have any recommendations? Mark Engleman |

Platform/Operating System/format? On a Mac greater than a 68020 using a system greater than 7.0 and less than OSX, SoundApp V2.7.2 is a very nice Freeware program by Norman Franke that will drag and drop batch convert. You can even set up playlists of files at different bit rates and depths without converting them first which is occasionally convenient. But if you want a certain amount of silence between files on a playlist you have to make up an audio file of silence for the length you wish and insert it between files. It's on a lot of sites, here's the homepage and it explains what kind of files it handles. http://www.spies.com/~franke/SoundApp/ Why couldn't it do a file conversion in Classic on OSX? There's no IO involved. |

Last updated almost four YEARS ago. It's an absurd recommendation. On the PC side, I highly recommend dBpowerAMP Music Converter. Stupid name, great freeware. All sorts of codecs ready to use, from MP3 to FLAC. Highlight a bunch of files in a folder, right-click, convert to..., choose codec, settings, output folder, off she goes. Very Mac-like! Even SoundApp was never this user-friendly. |
