does anyone know of a place on the net where i can hear these units?
does anybody have any mp3s of songs where they were used or anything
like that? does anyone have any experience with these units? (i'm very
interested in making sure the reverb unit does not mess with, degrade,
or color the sound...with the exception of of the effect itself, of
course).

The reverbs from TC Electronic are more likely to meet that particular
criteria.
