Default Seeking U67 Tuchel connector

I'm looking to replace the 7-pin Tuchel connector on the
mic side of a U67 cable. It's really only the female
internal bakelite part that needs to be replaced.
Any suggestions?

If you know the part number from Tuchel, put a T in front of it and
order it from an Amphenol dealer. Newark usually stocks Amphenol stuff.

Unfortunately it is not so simple. Tuchel connectors have a 'keyhole' notch
that ensures you are connecting the cable with the proper pin orientation. The
original Tuchel connectors had this key directly above pin 1. The newer Tuchel
connectors have a key IN BETWEEN pins 1 and 2 of the pins, and so the old and
new will not mate.

That leaves you with two options:
1. Start searching Ebay for a used or NOS connector that uses the original
keyhole position. Expect to pay quite a bit of money for it is it is unused.
2. Replace the connector on both the cable and the microphone.

In either case you will not be able to obtain the bakelite or plastic female
connector part without purchasing a complete connector. You might be able to
obain replacements at:

www.Sonicworld.de

good luck
Peace

John,

Check with Uwe Sattler at Neumann/USA 860-434-5220. Last I knew, they
had some of these.

Bil Bradley at The Micshop http://www.micshop.com/ has new 7-pin
female inserts, grooved to work in the cable plug or swivel mount for
a U-67.

I'd advise you to check with Neumann USA, since I believe that this
part is a special variant of a standard Amphenol-Tuchel connector,
which may be available only through Neumann.

The overall socket connector number is T 3469, but the key and keyway
of the socket are shifted 30 degrees from normal to prevent a U 67's
cable from being plugged into the higher-voltage power supplies of
microphone models that used AC 701 tubes.

The RF-proof (radio) versions of those microphones, such as the M 269
and the KM 254, and the Tuchel version of the original U 87, used the
same connector insert without the 30 degree offset, and that's the
form of it that you'd probably get if you ordered a T 3469 socket.
