Default EV 635 on loud gtr amps?

I have heard that this is a little secret weapon on rock gtr. Does anyone else
have any experiences on gtr with an EV 635?
Thanks,
JJ

Sure. It's probably the second most common electric guitar mike that I
see, behind the SM-57, and maybe slightly ahead of the 421L. It's a handy
mike. Give it a try, especially if you like to mike from the rear.

Is that from the days of Nipper and the RCA logo?

Might want to also consider the RE15. Really nice on
guitar amps.

Yep. Also, a very different sound, the RE200. Like an SM57 with no
compression.

Peace,
Paul

Yes. It is great. I learned about it here, and am a convert.

It ranks as one of my go-to mics, along with the 421, 57, e-609, and Baby Bottle.

I don't have mine anymore, but I recall it beig the gtr. cab mic I
preferred when I didn't want the presence hype of a 57. If I had the
exact tone I wanted at the cab, I'd just pop the 635 and go. Durable,
too.

I will second the endorsement of the RE15 ...and (what are we up to,
four? five?) sixth the endorsement of the 635A. I probably use those
two mics as much as if not more than an SM57 on loud guitar amps.

Of course, part of the motivation is me conciously seeking anything
but an SM57! But they're real contenders.

As everyone else said, "yes". It's not as nice on cleaner guitar (a little
"flat" sounding). Since it doesn't have a lot of low end (which you'd
probably need to roll most of off in a typical rock mix anyway) or reall
highs (which aren't coming out of the amp anyway) it's a sensible starting
place. The omni pattern is also useful since you can get it right on the
speaker without any proximity effect.

That said, it's not "exciting" sounding. If the amp sounds great, it'll
work. If you are trying to create magic that isn't really there, it won't
help you (but it won't hurt either).

Since they can be found so cheap, it's definitely worth grabbing one to have
around.
