I have a question for you audiophiles:

Are TV's with the built in DVD/VCR's just as good sounding or should I
buy separate units...

I am not looking for anything 'too fancy', just some good decent sound.

I know VCR's are pretty much obsolete these days, but I have so many old
movies that I hate to get rid of them and replace them with dvds.

This is something you have to judge for yourself. Of coarse a new 19" TV that
sells for $50.00 at Wal-Mart will have a lower sonic quality then a $5000.00
Sony (or insert other brand name here).
Do some shopping and be honest with what your hearing.

Anything anybody could reply would be a horrible generalization.

Go to a store and listen to some. Most of the combo units I have heard
don't sound very good, but then neither do most of the standalone TV sets
either. Too many of them have lots of top end and lots of bottom end and
not much in the middle. Listen to a news program on a bunch of sets and
listen to how natural the vocals are.

Then you probably already have a VCR, right? So why get a TV with one built

I hate that. You can never get the volume right. If watching a movie you
have to crank it to hear the dialogue and then you get blown out of your
seat when a sound effect comes up.
