Default A+ for Avalon

I have been considering selling one of my avalon pres but lost the
manual so I called avalon for a replacement. I told them I lost my
manual and would like to buy another and they refused to take my money.
Instead, they sent me a new one free (shipping included).

I have never had trouble with my Avalon gear and that is the best part
but to have service like that is beyond what I would hope for and for
that they deserve a mention!

Millenium Media is the same way. Both with the manual and the rack ears
option that they sent for free was nice to see in today's world.

They replaced the scratchy pots on my 737s three times. The service was great.
I just wish the things hadn't had to go back so many times. I also wish the
compressor was more useful. Now *there's* a mod waiting to be invented!

I love the compressor! I think that if you are doing punchy stuff that
you should use another compressor but for slower or anything near ballad
(most all country or folk) the thing is one of my favorite. I wouldn't
try to use it on hip hop though....

That being the case, it's no wonder they replaced the pots three
times. They still didn't fix what was wrong. I'll bet adding a
capacitor is cheaper than replacing a pot. BRBR

I actually spoke with Wyn at AES the year that it happened. My pair was from
the first batch of 737s (the ones with the baboon-ass purple knobs) and they
were using a new supplier of sealed pots. Apparently the lubricant used in the
pots turned out to be corrosive. They replaced a bunch of pots before the
manufacturer figured out why they were all failing. The service was great.
After the third return they upgraded them both with the SP transformers,
swapped the purple knobes for the machined metal ones, gave me a set of
replacementt tubes for both units and a T-shirt as well. They've been great
ever since. Aside from the limited usefulness of the compressor, I love then
and use them all the time.

Sounds like the same quality of service I've received from Ashly on
more than one occasion. I offered to buy manuals or schematics because
the units I purchased were discontinued and I bought them used. They
wouldn't take money, only my mailing address for shipping out the
documents I needed. There's some great people over their at Ashly.
And while I'm at it, if you ever need an AKG mic worked on don't
hesitate to send it back to the AKG service people in Nashville.
Excellent work and an unbelievable turnaround time. -Paul
