Had it not veered about 20 miles east to Gulf Shores just before landfall, the eye was predicted to go about directly over a house I briefly owned on it. I've been scouring the papers for mention of the island and haven't seen any. Perhaps it's gone. Wouldn't have taken a whole hell of a lot to wipe it clean and it's almost certain the swell submerged it, on up and over the platforms that most of the houses were built on. On the east end, most were at ground level (barely above sea level) for some strange reason and I just can't imagine what their fate, and that of the marina, might be. Did the causeway survive?
