It was a million to shot, Doctor---who would of thought a trumpet was
capable of that! (just kidding) I have my Lollipops that fit on the 451s. I have played around with them getting a sense of the sound---also had them on my C60 tubes. But my question is---the three screws that are removeable---what's the story? My capsules did not come with any documentation (sort of wish they did...) My guess is that the diaphragm is internally shock-mounted. However, these three screws hold it firmly in place to keep it from being bounced around during transport. Is this the case? Should I reinsert them everytime I put the capsule away? Or just for when I transport them? Sort of like parking the mechanism of a CD player. On a related note, I know that a number of others here have received their Lollies. What do you think? A few quick notes from my tests. (More tests next week): 1) Higher output level than a CK1. (to be expected---LD) That is a good thing for the C-60s since they are quite noisy. 2) A sort of a sweet tone. Nice on my voice, not great (but not bad) on acoustic guitar. 3) very coloured off-axis. A problem often found in LDs. I tried pointing one at my voice and one at the guitar, various distances apart and the off-axis information caused too many problems to make this workable. I had hoped to use these on occasion for classical recordings, but this may not be an ideal application. I will be testing the pair at a recital at the end of the month. I hope to try them on both the 451s and the C60s. In general, so far I like them. They will be a good choice for voices and instruments. Not sure how useful for distant miking. On some voices, I expect they will kill the competition. Might be nice on horns. I will test that next week. One niggling little thing...the way the base and capsule housing pieces are welded together---on one they are neatly put together, but the other one you can see the malformed solder. I think if both had arrived that way, I would not have cared, but one looks better than they other. Not bad enough to send it back and get another, though. Other than that they sure look great.
