You're not going to find many constructive comments about cheap preamps with
tubes placed in the signal path for marketing purposes. What are your mics?
What's your monitoring environment like? Is it accurate enough for you to
distinguish the nuanced diffferences between most good mic preamps? Good,
clean IC based mic pre designs are cheap, easy to make, and found on most newer
low cost mixing boards. You can "dirty-up" the sound anywhere along the line.
If you intentionally place a crappy piece of gear between a good source and
the recording device, the damage can't be undone later.
