I agree, this isn't anything to do with audio. These are world events
which affect the whole world and everyone in the world to some extent.
So are other things - environmentalism would just be one example.

These threads are nearly always American-centric.

True, but would you deny that the policies & actions of the President of
the USA have an effect on the rest of the world in this day & age?

Tell me, what would
you judge to have been the principle events this year in Norway?

Don't know. If You're in Norway & feel compelled, I, for one, am all ears.

Should
rec.audio.pro be used as a forum to discuss them? America is 5% of the
worlds population.

I suspect Americans make up way more than 5% of RAP
posters/readers/subscribers. And probably way more than 5% of audio
engineers & techs worldwide. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Perhaps you should explicitly state exactly what you think RAP is for.
What is on topic, professional audio and 9/11 orientated politics?
Anything that interests you or anyone else?

Why don't you post these things into one of the politics groups? Why
have an hierarchy in Usenet if any group can be used to post threads on
any topic? I'm sure a lot of people come onto these groups to get away
from world events. I don't think that you could claim that these
political topics are not being raised in other forums and other mediums.

Sorry if I seem to getting at you but people not obeying the Usenet
hierarchy is a pet hate of mine.

I guess everybody is entitled to their own pet peeves. One of my biggest
ones is people who think they can control the ****ing internet. If you're
one of those anal retentive control freaks, why dont you start your own
moderated news group. Granted, RAP has a charter, but the people who
started RAP don't OWN any part of the internet. Not even the tiny little
bit of bandwidth that RAT occupies. So, untill we see rec.audio.ty, or
rec.audio.killermike, or rec.audio.will, Roger can post whatever the hell
he wants. and anybody that has a problem with that can bite his ass. And
if they're still hungry, they can bite mine too.

Listen, guys, I'm a South African far far away and I find this sort of
OT discussion gives fascinating insight into the minds of Americans,
the Romans in this new age of empire, as it were. I prefer to read it
here because, as a long-time lurker in this group, I know many of you
from your on-topic postings and your lighter remarks. So I have a
sense of your non-political personalities, which gives far better
context than reading the rantings of unknowns in politics-only groups.

And as for those who try so hard to banish OT posts, why don't you
just not read them? Nobody's forcing you.

You're welcome.

Roger, you're one of only a handful of RAP posters who I respect enough to
try to read most of their posts regardless of topic. Granted, I come here
for audio, & personally, I'd prefer it if there were only audio posts here.
But if we can't have political posts, then we can't have posts about BBQ,
hot sauce, sports, or anything else either. In any event, you're audio
related posts have shown you to be within a stone's throw of the highest
level of knowledge on this group. And even your OT posts tend to be well
thought out & show you to be a person whose opinions are based on some
degree of independent thought as opposed to those among us who base their
philosophy on propiganda, rumor, & inuendo.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is "Don't let the *******s get you
down".

And since we're off topic...

Go Panthers!!!!!

The BEST BBQ sauce is Scott's (not Dorsey) from Goldsboro, NC.
http://www.scottsbarbecuesauce.com/

And for a regular hot sauce (when flavor is important), the original
tabasco is hard to beat, but if you want something REALLY HOT, try Gold Cap.

Bad analogy... they have software now that removes the poop before you
step in it... why don't you use it, is the real question?

No Al,

The real question is why do you think you're so high on the food chain that
you can break the rules. Would it be so ****ing difficult for you to lift a
finger on your mouse and click the right newsgroup instead of abusing this
one?

The burden is on you, since you are in violation of the rules here. The fact
that this has been brought to your attention many times before indicates an
amazing level of hubris.

You'd think all that attitude could be put to much better use, even if it
were only to go to a newsgroup that addressed your concerns. I guess you must
just enjoy pooping on the path and ****ing people off. That's sort of sad.

I think that you've hit upon a fair analogy. Usenet is a shared, global
resource and therefore depends on the people using it to obey the
guidelines. To those people who respond to points like that with, 'Who
are you to tell me what to do? There's nothing you can do to stop me!',
it's difficult to know what to say.

This is an example of the ideology of 'modern people'. 'I'm alright jack
so **** you buddy!'. The idea of making a bit of a sacrifice by adhering
to the voluntary rules for the benefit of the common whole just doesn't
occur to them. Why should they, if they don't *have* to?

Apparently you have not yet read the RAP charter. It forbids OT posting.

Every society has rules. Those who break them knowingly have boundary issues,
or worse.
