Thanks in advance!

Foley artists use bunched up half inch analog tape to make the sound of
leaves.

Oh, no. Only an extinct type of Zonal tape is right for this. But you
can probalby buy a few yards of it on eBay.

Actually, 1/4" BASF SPR 50 LHL used to give good results ;D

Then of course, you'd need the right mic and mic-pre... I can see a
loooooong thread starting

Did anyone actually think of using rustling leaves? Recorded off an actual
tree that is outside?

Story: Years ago I was on the outside broadcast team covering a cricket
match in a country town near where I live. We had hired a caravan which
was set up at one end of the park. Therein I had set up the the various
equipment one needs for these occasions, and as it was a fine windless day
set up an 8 ball microphone on a tall stand outside under a silver birch
tree to convey the sounds of leather on willow and the other interesting
effects that these matches generate.

As the day wore on there came a gentle cooling breeze, much appreciated by
the spectators, players and radio crew alike. There also came a frantic
phone call from Head office wanting to know where the hissing on the
broadcast was coming from. It took me a few seconds to realise it was the
leaves rustling in the tree some 5 or 6 feet above the 8 ball. Head office
were duly pacified.

I will refrain from relating here the story about the brown paper cowboy
as I fear I have wandered off topic too much already!

Exactly. Hiss - and trains, planes, automobiles, children playing,
dogs barking, ....

More seriously, there's no fun if you record the real thing (I said
MORE seriously, I didn't say this was serious).

You see, we foley people love to make you believe that this sound we
recorded by waking on some wet deer skin streched over expeanded
polysterene was actually the recording of someone walking in a snow
field.

The best overall Wind library I ever heard was BLOW TOOLS, from Sound Ideas
in Toronto:

http://www.sound-ideas.com/blowtools.html

Sound Ideas also has some pretty terrific general sound effects packages, but
be aware that good effects are not cheap. Here's a list of some companies
that sell effects, some of which are available as downloads:

http://www.sound-effects-library.com/

http://www.renaissancesfx.com/

Sound Dogs is particularly good for downloading individual sounds, usually at
a cost of just a few dollars per sound.

These places have free effects:
