I can't get you a reel, but I can tell you where there is an unlimited supply of short pieces slightly longer than 5 cm. ROFL! Yeah, but you know it'll want to "curve" in the wrong direction. And didn't I read that magnetic tape is made by magnetising the paticles while gluing it to the backing, so the grain goes along the tape travel direction? What happens to the sound when you turn the grain 90 degrees? |

What happens to the sound when you turn the grain 90 degrees? The top end response changes. If you want to try it, get a reel of 2" Quad videotape. It's intended for transverse scanning, so the "grain" is perpendicular to the direction of the tape. You can bias it up and record to it, but the top end is a little weak and it's kind of noisy. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
