Default Anybody remember the Tascam DA-50 1st-gen DAT?

Just resurrected one of these old beasties. But I would like to make it more useful, so wonder
if anybody here knows if it's possible to defeat it's 44.1K lockout on the RCA s/pdif input. I
know it's a shot in the dark. I'd never even heard of this model until I found this one. I
must say, it makes the newer DA-30 look like a semi-piece o' crap. Has a Sony PCM2500
mechanism, but with a better & cool slot loading mech. Whole thing is beautifully built, and
the meters are superb.

Tascam still has service manuals for these. It's worth the money just to
see the thing. I have a DA-40 manual here but no DA-50, but I remember it
having a whole slew of jumpers inside.

Yeah I remember it but I can't help you with the tech aspect of it.

IIRC it listed for about $5000.

For reference I paid $995 for my DA-30 in September of 1993.

I actually still use the thing occassionally (with outboard
converters) but once it's gone I doubt I'll replace it.

The tascam site has historical info on their introduction of their
products. It is just a blurb but it might mention the features of this
model. I think I remember it being mentioned on there.
