Default Anybody remember the Tascam DA-50 1st-gen DAT?

Just resurrected one of these old beasties. But I would like to make it more useful, so wonder
if anybody here knows if it's possible to defeat it's 44.1K lockout on the RCA s/pdif input. I
know it's a shot in the dark. I'd never even heard of this model until I found this one. I
must say, it makes the newer DA-30 look like a semi-piece o' crap. Has a Sony PCM2500
mechanism, but with a better & cool slot loading mech. Whole thing is beautifully built, and
the meters are superb.
