Default Hearty recommendation: WideUSA LCDs

Back in 2001 or early 2002, I bought a 24", 1920x1200 LCD for my studio
from WideUSA. It worked without incident. Last year, I finished
rewiring and gain-staging the studio, and discovered that the slight
445Hz hum pervading all my gear was emanating from the monitor's
backlight.

I wrote to Wide, not really expecting any help, but to my surprise the
president talked to their chief engineer and offered to replace the
monitor, even though it was out of warranty, even though a slight EMI
leak doesn't affect the operation of the monitor itself, and in fact
isn't something any consumer device usually worries about beyond FCC
specifications.

They were out of production while they switched to a new fabrication
plant, but the president stayed in touch with me and made good on his
promise once they had stock available - even shipping it FedEx 2-day
(this is a 45-pound monitor). And the new monitor is silent.

I know where I'm getting my next widescreen panel from...
