Default Alesis DM5 MIDI thru

will a DM5 output midi data thats triggered from drum trigs? all that
i want to do is to be able to record a midi track in a sequencer and
have a softsampler (NI Battery) do the sampling, im not interested in
the DMx ablilities as a sampler. is this the least expensive way of
doing audio - midi conversions? cause im sure that with the DM5 im
paying for the DAC and all of the sampling circuitry and all that, all
i want is to trigger samples from Battery from a drum kit. any insight
at all would be greatly appreciated.
