Default More Berklee tech lessons

A few weeks ago, I mentioned the interesting discussion we had in class=20
about balanced audio (the teacher seemed to think that reversing the=20
plus and minus leads of unbalanced audio made it balanced..) =20

Well, my education continues, and I've put a few new "lessons" on my=20
weblog, based on what I've learned. I'm going to have to go to Costco=20
to get all the grains of salt I'm going to need over the coming=20
semesters. Some doozies:

* The only difference between radio signals and sound waves is the=20
frequency. While sound waves happen to be airborne, and radio happens=20
to be electromagnetic, if you take a sound wave and increase the=20
frequency it becomes electromagnetic, and vice versa.

* Digital delays with =93tap=94 functions aren=92t as accurate as a tap=
e=20
delay, because if the beat of the music falls on the off-beat of the=20
tapping you just did, the first delay will be early until the processor=20
catches up with the music.

* All stereo sources should be panned hard left and right.

OTOH, the good news is that they've somehow convinced Leanne Unger=20
(Leonard Cohen, Laurie Anderson, Cat Stevens, as well as many classical=20
recordings) to move east and join the faculty. She sat in on a mixing=20
class, and she seems pretty sharp, so maybe things will be looking up=20
next semester.
