Default best digital multitrack recorder?

I am after a digital multitrack recorder. I need it to record in .wav
format (16bit) so that I can transfer the files to CD so they can be
read in to Logic. I also would like the ability to read in .wav's on
to each channel on my desk for playback. ie:my drummer will be giving
me drums in .wav format and I want to layer on top of that, then ship
it back to him in CD format, synched up with a click.

Can anyone recomend me some good digital multitrack recorders ?
budget is up to $1800
I need the desk to have a CDR in built.
in built effects would be nice too .....

Thanks in advance

I just put together a PC for a DAW for around $1000, plus $150 for the
OS. Multidrive included.

If you want a One Box solution, Korg, Yamaha, and Roland all make
recorders that fit your description well within your price point.

You'll have to decide whether the gain in portability is worth the
vendor lock-in.

Everything you buy involves trade-offs. You need someone who can tell
you what the tradeoffs are so you can decide intelligently.

So you don't need to record any more than one or two channels at once?
****, a $200 PC could handle your needs just fine with $99 software.
