I remember way back when and the coolest thing to have was a Lexi
Prime Time. They were way out of my league back then (I was using an MXR Analog Delay back then) and I didn't know much about them. Some studio guy told me back then that "Prime number delays sound better because they are not divisible by other delay times", but looking back on this I think he was BS'ing me. SO....what is the legend behind the name....has to be one of the coolest product names ever I will say. Analogeezer |

I want to know why the new BLUE preamp is called "Robbie." I haven't seen it on the hoof yet, but from the pictures I don't think it looks at all like a robot. It doesn't look at all like a mic preamp either, but I'm used to unconventional industrial designs from BLUE. The marketing department did a high-priced focus group study. Then the responsible manager named the product after her cat. HTH |

I was in the delay manufacturing business at the same time with a company called Audio Digital (it was us, Lex, and DeltaLab for delay at that point in time) and that's the story I heard. Doesn't necessarily make it true, but it's plausible. ---------Denny -- Life begins at 60 - 1.060, that is. Reply to denny_dot_g_dot_conn_at_ci_dot_eugene_dot_or_dot_u s |

Didn't this have something to do with 'prime' numbers ? Yes. There was an explanation about it in the "Prime Time 93" manual but I haven't seen it in a few years and I don't remember what the story was. I do remember that there was an indicator light on the 93 that would indicate when a prime number was selected by the millisecond delay setting. |

I think they called it that for marketing, and not tech BS marketing, reasons; "ready for primetime" is implied, and they did work well and flexibly for the technology of the day, and reliably by any standard. They are not limited to prime numbers for delay choices, but do indicate with a little red dot in the display when a prime number is selected. -- ha |

We made gtr. and bass preamps to financce the delay design. So long ago that I had to really dig through the brains cells to remember! ----------Denny -- Life begins at 60 - 1.060, that is.
