Just out of curiosity, what's your favorite keyboard controller/synth
for general studio use? Durability and playability should be
considerations -- as should bang for the buck.

Best action (IMHO):

1. Kawai MP-9000/MP-9500

2. Roland XV-88

3. Yamaha S-80

4. Peavey C8?? (the big one that came out years ago)

I'm not sure what happened to Yamaha, I bought an S-80 when the S-90
came out because they changed the action....the S-90 has a much softer
action, as does the Motif.

As far as non-weighted goes, try and find an old Roland JV-90, it has
great action, 76 keys, and EIGHT ZONES. Unfortunately it only has two
controller zones but how many sustain pedals and sweep pedals do you
need per zone?

I use my JV-90 to access some rack modules (and the internal sounds,
it has two expansion boards), and I set it up that each zone controls
an internal sound or a module...it's pretty easy to deal with and each
zone has a volume and mute button as well.

I have been less than impressed by most of the plastic cheap
controllers on the market, sure it's handy to use with a laptop, but I
think an older synth with good action and multi-zones is a better
bet....also you have something to play when the computer crashes g
