I'm trying to record lectures or seminars in a classroom or office
space, and then broadcast them online for educational purpose.

For now I use a Olimpus digital voice recorder and my old JVC video
camera, but I think I need a decent mic or something. What can you
suggest to use or to adapt my existing equipments?

The most important thing in recording lectures* is mic placement.
I've heard lectures made from cassette recorders sitting too far away
from the lecturer, with fans going, and they are diffucult to
understand and painful to listen to. The mic must be close enough to
the speaker so that the voice is loud and clear above any A/C or fans
as well as the room reverberation. If the speaker ALWAYS stands
behind a podium, you can mount the mic on the podium, on a
stand/gooseneck that puts the mic no more than maybe a foot away from
the speaker's mouth. If he/she moves around, a lapel mic would
probably be best. If he moves around so much that the cable becomes a
problem, then you need a remote lapel mic - these aren't as cheap but
are at least within your budget.

Bare in mind, once
I have a audio file, I must edit it and be able to broadcast it
online.

There are several .wav file editors (the late Cool Edit would be
ideal, but surely there are other reasonable under-$100 choices), then
there are programs that do format conversion to streaming audio, with
which I'm less familiar. There are several standards, and I've seen
some websites give visitors a choice, usuallty between RealAudio and
something else, maybe Windows Media Player.

Also budget is an issue for me, I can't spend more than $700 or $800.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

* This is also one of the most important things in recording other
things, but as I say it seems to get neglected more in lectures,
giving bad to unusable results, so it's important that it not get
neglected.
