Looks like I got a little excited with cut & paste in the subject line.

There's been a lot of discussion about it on the GearSlutz forum
lately. This month's guest moderator Mike Shipley uses one and a lot
of people have been asking him about it.

i have one. works great. drops the signal way down, so you need a decent
pair of mic pres to bump it back up. It doesn't even have enough gain to
drive a tube compressor directly. it is all passive, so i'm guessing it has
about $5 worth of resistors in it and a few switches. somebody is making
serious cash on it. but it does the job.

I built one of these and I spent around $290.00 on parts... (no
switching etc, just plain old summing) And $50.00 was resistors alone,
of course, I used Holsworthy 1/10% metal films. Thay are around $1.08
each in small (under 100) quantities.

If you factor in PCB design time, a nice cabinet like the Folcrom,
machining / paint, and assembly, profits look a lot more meager.
Bringing a piece of gear to marketability is a *lot* more expensive
than you would think!
