I've learned the hard way that you MUST walk the venue. Listening only from the mix position means you're only going to be mixing FOR the mix position. Every area in a given venue is going to sound different, and if you don't mix in it every day, you better walk it! Even during the gig if the set permits... Rupert I find it hard to believe that an engineer responsible for such a gig WOULDN'T have walked the room, but the only other excuse would be that he wasn't up to the job. Maybe he was very cheap?
