Default Anyone use a Drawmer DF330 Noise filter?

We need something for filtering Lighting noise in a TV studio. These
seem to fit the bill, but we're having trouble getting a demo (they
only build to order).

I haven't.

But I will ask why you have so much lighting noise. Is this all RF stuff,
or is it acoustic noise from vibrating filaments? Or is this ballast noise
from HMIs?

Is realtime filtering an absolute necessity?

If note, Adobe Audition has some narrowband filters that do a great job with
lighting noise.

It's accoustic. It's a SH#$ load of lights. It's a large studio with
a grid FULL of lights. Some have fans, some are "Scrollers" .
There's also a large rear projection monitor.

The misleading thing in your orignal post was the "Lighting noise"
which is actually mechanical noise. It sounds like what you're getting
is somethign constant that, given a clean sample (the noise by itself,
with nothing that you intend to record), one of the noise removal
tools found in a number of DAW programs these days would do a fairly
good job of reducing it to a tolerable level.

It's a frequency-dependent filtering process, it's a "take out
everything that sounds like this and leave all the rest alone" process
that takes a fair amount of calculation.

Cool Edit Pro (now Adobe Audition) is pretty common and has a noise
removal tool that's reported to work fairly well. You might try to
find someone who has a copy, give them a sample of clean noise and a
piece of your recording and see what it can do. It takes a bit of
tweaking to optimize the process - there's always a compromise between
complete noise removal and removing something you want to keep, but
with constant noise like what seems to be what you're getting
according to your description, you can do a pretty good job.

Yes.

I'm fully aware of the DAW options. I use them almost nightly to fix
this very noise in commercial spots for the show. However, the show
itself never gets that kind of attention. As I said before, we're
often live to air, and when we're not we only fix small portions of
the show that require remixing.
